It was awarded: For 20 years service in the Militia or Volunteer Forces. The recipient can be of any rank, but if an officer he would not have had the time required in the commissioned rank to qualify for the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration. Recipients of the Volunteer LSM were not eligible for the CAFLSM. The recipient was recommended by
